Berlin is a small village which was declared as an industrial site in 1980. It is well connected through the N2 National Route. The distance to the East London city center is 48km and to King Williams Town is about 20 km.
The East London IDZ in collaboration with Provincial government has shown interest in developing Berlin into a renewable energy cluster.
The ELIDZ has facilitated the establishment of a 15MV-19MV solar photo-voltaic (PV) facility, ILB Helios Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd.
The company aims at supplying the EPC and IPP companies in Southern African Development Community region with high quality PV modules with the added value of South African local content and B-BBEE certification.
